Why You Should Eat on Acushnet Avenue This Week

Love The Ave Restaurant Week | Friday, June 13 – Friday, June 20

By Steven Froias

If you’ve ever walked down Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford’s North End, you know it’s not just a street—it’s a pulse. A rhythm of languages, aromas, and faces from all over the world. It’s a living, breathing story of immigration, hustle, heritage, and heart. And for the next week, that story takes center plate.

From Friday, June 13 through Friday, June 20, it’s Love The Ave Restaurant Week—your invitation to taste your way through the North End and support the small businesses that feed this community in more ways than one.

These aren’t chain restaurants with deep pockets. They’re family-run kitchens where recipes are passed down like heirlooms, and hard work is kneaded into every empanada, pupusa, pastel, and pizza. Many of these businesses are owned and operated by immigrants and people of color. They are diverse in flavor and origin, but united in what they offer this city: culture, connection, and creativity.

And like many small businesses these days, they’re under stress precisely because they are all those good things written about above. But they show up—every morning. Early. Prepping sauces. Rolling dough. Brewing coffee. Greeting regulars. Hoping new customers will find their way through the door. Hoping for your support.

Love The Ave Restaurant Week is a chance to say we value you to the cooks, servers, dishwashers, and owners keeping the flame alive on Acushnet Avenue. It’s more than just a promotion—it’s a celebration of resilience and flavor. Many eateries will be posting specials all next week, but the really special thing at the table…is you.

So why should you eat on Acushnet Avenue all week?

  • Because your lunch money makes a difference.
  • Because behind every plate is a person—and a family—working hard to stay afloat.
  • Because these small businesses are the backbone of this neighborhood.
  • Because you’ll taste something new, exciting, and real.
  • Because every bite tells a story.

From Guatemalan street food to Cape Verdean comfort dishes, from Portuguese classics to Latin American sweets, Acushnet Avenue serves it all. And for one week, it’s all here waiting for you—loud, proud, and delicious.

We encourage everyone to share their meals and experiences on social media. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, whatever you fancy. Show how much you Love The Ave by tagging @LoveTheAve or using the hashtag #LoveTheAve throughout the week with pictures of your delicious plates.

On the Love The Ave Facebook page we’ll be posting unique dishes and special offers as they become available throughout the week. Be sure to Like the page and follow it as a guide.

This isn’t a traditional restaurant week promotion.

It’s community week.
It’s love-your-neighbor week.
