Dinner and a Movie on The Ave at Incognito

Incognito owner, Sandra da Silva chats with a guest at the bar.

There’s no more quintessential night out than dinner and a movie, right? So, why not combine the two!

That’s just what Incognito, at 1606-10 Acushnet Avenue does on their special movie nights – which have become must-attend evenings in the North End of New Bedford.

Incognito is one of the creative businesses on The Ave – as it’s known – which give New Bedford’s most relentlessly urban neighborhood its unique flavor. It’s a restaurant and nightclub with a flair for design on the premises and on the drink and bill of fare menu.

It’s also a big catering business. Taking a cue from that playbook, dinner and movie nights at Incognito feature a buffet dinner in addition to the feature.

Packed house for a screening of “A Star is Born.”

We caught Lady GaGa and Bradley Cooper in the shallow at Incognito in late February for an Italian and Portuguese influenced buffet alongside a screening of “A Star is Born.” It was an excellent evening!

Like their popular Drag Buffets once a month on Sunday mornings, the event was sold-out. Indeed, a second screening had to be added to accommodate guests – a not uncommon occurrence for the dinner and a movie nights.

New Bedford, unfortunately, does not have a single commercial cinema within city limits. It’s almost bizarre that a city of upwards of 100,000 people isn’t home to a single screen dedicated to this most communal of art forms.

Except for special events at the Zeiterion Theatre, National Park Visitor’s Center, the New Bedford Whaling Museum, and the co-working facility, Groundwork!, Incognito is the only place to regularly catch cinema in New Bedford as it was meant to be watched – in the dark with strangers!

Dinner – and a movie – is served!

“Bohemian Rhapsody” rounded out the month of February, and as we head into March, the next scheduled dinner and a movie night is this Wednesday, March 6.

The feature film, “Ben is Back,” starring Julia Roberts, starts at 7:30 p.m. The buffet begins at 6:30 p.m. The cost for both is only $12 – and you can make reservations by calling 508-993-3933.

Of curse, a full bar is available; Incognito is famous for their cocktail concoctions. Be sure to also follow their Facebook page for more info and to discover their other special events.

Incognito is showing us all how to #LoveTheAve with community and creativity – and with dinner and a movie, too!

That’s Oscar-worthy.
