Rep. Antonio D. Cabral has announced via his Facebook page that New Bedford has received funding for “dining parklets” both downtown and in the north end of the city – specifically in the #LoveTheAve International Marketplace district.
He wrote, “We got word over the weekend that the City of New Bedford received $79,000 to create 4 ‘dining parklets’ on Purchase and Water Streets downtown and $69,000 to create two additional dining parklets in the North End in the International Marketplace District along Acushnet Avenue.
“This funding will help these areas become more friendly to outdoor dining and retail, while maintaining social distancing protocols and improving pedestrian access through the neighborhood.
“MassDOT’s Shared Streets and Spaces quick-launch/quick-build grant program provides cities and towns with grants to improve sidewalks, curbs, streets, on-street parking spaces, and off-street parking lots in support of public health, safe mobility, and renewed commerce.”
