Join the Community Economic Development Center (CEDC) in partnership with the City of New Bedford Parks, Recreation and Beaches, on Saturday, September 21 from 11:30-7:30 p.m. at Riverside Park for the Third Annual Festival Tipíco De Guatemala. Celebrate the rich Guatemalan heritage, traditions and customs with friends and family.
Bring your family and friends to enjoy a fun filled day at the Festival Tipíco De Guatemala with authentic crafts, music, kite flying, dancing, food and soccer. You don’t want to miss out on this year’s entertainment including traditional folkloric dances with authentic costumes such as convite, Baile de Conquistadores, as well as folkloric dancers, Soñando por Mañana.
Enjoy the traditional music styles from singers, Ana Elizabeth direct from Guatemala, Ashlee Soto, and Selena Quiroa, local rapper Oscar Guarcas. Performers will also include traditional marimba from Orquesta Reyna Quiche music and contemporary Guatemalan music from New Bedfords’s own Atrevidos de Guatemala.
Enjoy artisan craft demonstrations, such as traditional weaving, morral bag making, straw fans, tortillas, traditional kites and kite flying. In the morning, enjoy a men’s and women’s soccer match with teams from New Bedford and New Jersey starting at 10:00 AM. Enjoy a large selection of authentic Guatemalan food and Guatemalan craft vendors for sale. The festival starts at 11:30 AM and entertainment will begin at 12:00 PM. We hope to see you all there to celebrate the rich Guatemalan arts and culture in our community.
